RowCraft FAQ and limits

Frequently asked questions

Can different projects use different columns for the same field?

Yes. Give the table field a context per project (in Jira's field settings) and configure each context separately on Field tables. Reports align columns with the same name across contexts, and rowcraftField() searches every context that has the column.

Why can't I change the type of a saved column?

A saved column keeps its type so that values already saved on work items never need converting, and searches and reports keep their meaning. Only Select list and Multi select can be switched. To use another type, add a new column and delete the old one.

Why does the table not appear on a work item?

  • Table field: check that the field is on the screens of the project and work type, and that a context of the field applies to that project. See Add the field to screens.
  • Panel table: check the table's scope (projects and work types), and that the panel was set to Show for all work items once. See Show the panel on work items.

Can customers fill in a table in the service portal?

Yes. Add the table field to the request type in Jira Service Management. Columns marked Hide in the service portal (agents only) are not shown to customers. Panel tables are not shown in the portal.

Do default rows apply to existing work items?

No. Default rows fill new, empty table fields when the RowCraft editor opens them, for example on the create form. Existing work items keep their rows, and work items created through the REST API or automation without the editor do not get default rows.

Why does my search find a work item whose matching values are in different rows?

Each condition in rowcraftField() or rowcraftPanel() matches when any row matches, and conditions may be met by different rows. See Search with JQL. To check values in the same row, use a report with filters.

My JQL shows "JQL is invalid. Validation of field by customJqlFunctionExpansion failed". What is wrong?

Jira shows this one message for every error in an app's JQL function. Check the table and column names, the operators for the column type and the values, and that you have access to the app. The search helper shows Jira's check as you type.

Can I edit tables with automation or the REST API?

Yes for table fields: their value is a JSON object, and Jira enforces the table's rules on every write. Values written this way do not get formula results or search data until the table is saved again in RowCraft, so prefer the RowCraft editor or import for bulk changes.

Can I move data from another table app?

Download the table from the other app as CSV or Excel and import it into RowCraft, one work item at a time. For larger migrations, contact support.

Where can I get help?

Contact BlueGrove Labs support. Include the work item key, the table name and a screenshot of any message.
