Getting started
Install and set up RowCraft
RowCraft – Table Fields for Jira is a Jira Cloud app on the Atlassian Marketplace. A Jira site administrator installs it once; after that, Jira administrators create tables and everyone with access to the app can use them.
Before you start
- You need a Jira Cloud site. RowCraft works in company-managed and team-managed projects, and in Jira Service Management service projects.
- Installing an app needs the site administrator (organisation admin) role.
- Creating table fields and panel tables needs the Administer Jira global permission. People who only fill in tables, search them or use reports need no admin rights.
Install the app
- In Jira, open Apps → Explore more apps (or go to the Atlassian Marketplace).
- Search for RowCraft – Table Fields for Jira.
- Select Try it free or Buy it now and follow the steps. Jira asks you to review the permissions the app needs; see Data, privacy and permissions for what each one is used for.
- Wait for the confirmation that the app is installed.
Give people access
Atlassian lets administrators decide who may use each app. In Atlassian Administration, open RowCraft in your site's connected apps and check its access settings, so that everyone who works with tables can use the app.
People without access to the app cannot run searches that use rowcraftField() or rowcraftPanel(): Jira never calls the function for them and shows "JQL is invalid. Validation of field by customJqlFunctionExpansion failed". Add them to the app's access to fix this.
Find RowCraft in Jira
After installation, RowCraft appears in several places:
| Where | What you find there | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|
| Apps → RowCraft → Reports | Reports of table rows across work items | Everyone with access |
| Apps → RowCraft → Field tables | All table fields, the New field table wizard and their column designer | Jira administrators |
| Apps → RowCraft → Panel tables | Panel tables, their scope and columns | Jira administrators |
| A work item | Field tables on its screens, the RowCraft tables panel, and the Table changes tab under Activity | Everyone who can browse the work item |
| Work item search (Apps menu) | Search RowCraft tables, the search helper | Everyone with access |
| Jira settings → Work items → Fields | The RowCraft table field type and each field's contexts, with the same column designer | Jira administrators |
Hiding the admin pages from other people is a convenience, not the security check: every admin action checks the Administer Jira permission again on the server.
Next: create a table
Continue with Create your first table field, or add a panel table if the table should appear on work items without a custom field.
Uninstalling
Uninstalling RowCraft removes the app's pages, panels and JQL functions, so tables can no longer be shown, edited or searched. Export the data you want to keep first, for example with a report export to Excel.
